I absolutely LOVE Christmas decorations, but if I’m being honest I don’t like having to buy new decorations each year.
Is it just me or do they always break? My lights only last a couple of years and the garlands fall apart leaving me a huge mess of green bits to vacuum off the floor.
Last year, I became more of a decoration minimalist and absolutely loved the change. Though, I spent less money on decorations, you still got that Christmas vibe when you walked into our house. Here’s how I did it…
Buy more expensive Christmas decorations
Ok, ok, I know that sounds counterintuitive But, it’s not!! I promise. Let me explain. Instead of buying every single cute Christmas knick Knack that I saw. I bought a few high quality accent items that were timeless and I absolutely loved. A beautiful wreath for the front porch, and a wonderful fireplace garland. I absolutely LOVE Frontgate for these items. The lights are battery operated and you can set them on a timer so its really no hassle AT ALL! Remember, we are trying to keep it simple.
Decorate with Artwork unique to your Family
These are my favorite Christmas decorations of all time. During the Christmas season our regular family portraits come down and are replaced with seasonal portraits. Holiday Mini-Session are a GREAT way to decorate your home for the holidays. (Hint Hint: I’ve got some exciting details about this coming soon!)
These portraits will last you a lifetime and they will be your most valued Christmas Decorations that you own.
Not into pictures of yourself? That’s ok. It is easier than ever now to create your own holiday inspired art. In fact, I’ve set up a Pinterest board just for you to browse some ideas. Nothing is cuter than artwork your kids have created, especially with their precious little handprints.
Not sure you have enough wall space for large portraits, check out this fun idea…
Maybe this is starting to feel overwhelming?
I hope this has been helpful and given you a few fun ideas for decorating your home this year… Ready for some beautiful Christmas themed images of your very own? You can check out my limited edition Christmas mini sessions here! Can’t wait to see you in front of my camera soon.
