Did you know that the most important part of your photo session is deciding what to do with your images? Are you wondering why you should stop buying only digital images? In the past few years, digital images have become more popular because of course you want to share all of those images with your family and friends on social media! That can make it really easy to overlook the value of printed artwork.
So, let’s take a look at why you should stop buying only digital images. First just take a minute to think about how important your photo session was to you. You’ve spent hours planning the right location, outfit and getting your family there. Do you really want your images to just sit on a hard drive in a desk drawer only to be looked at one or two times a year? You cherish your family and your memories of them deserve to be cherished too! Wall art is an excellent way to keep your memories alive and on display every day. If I had a choice, I would rather have one beautiful piece of wall art over all of the digital images from my session. Here’s why….
Enjoy your images everyday
Wall art is a statement piece in your home that you get to see every day. It puts a smile on my face and brings back sweet memories every time I walk into the living room and see my daughter’s newborn portraits on the wall. While I do have digital files of all their newborn portraits, it is very rare that I stop and take a moment to look at them. That old saying, “out of sight, out of mind” really does apply when it comes to portraits.
Home decor that is unique to you
Instead of decorating my home with generic paintings I find at Hobby Lobby, I love to decorate with pieces that tell our family’s story! When you walk into my home you will see wall art that is a collection of places we have traveled, our family portraits throughout the years and quotes/scriptures that inspire us. When friends come over to visit, these are always great conversation starters. Don’t get me wrong you can find some cute things at Hobby Lobby. I mean, where do you think all my framed quotes come from? 😉 But, I want you to have the joy of seeing your beautiful story and those that mean the most to you on the walls of your home.
Pass it down for generations
Another great thing about wall art is that it is an heirloom that you can pass down to your children and grandchildren. When time has moved by faster than it should and your children are grown, one day all that will be left of us are the photographs and the memories. A timeless beautiful portrait is one of the best things that you can pass down to your children. In my studio, I only work with printers and framers that use archival quality materials, so that your artwork will stand the test of time.
You will always know where it is
It is very hard to “lose” a wall portrait. I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve had clients reach out to me because they did not properly backup their digital images. When your hard drive fails or your computer breaks, if you are not diligent about backing up your digital images, your images could be lost forever. My family has almost no photos of me from 7th and 8th grade because that was shortly after we switched to digital cameras. Years later when I was in high school, our computer crashed and we learned the importance of computer backups the hard way. 🥴
Hard drive failures and computer crashes are not the only obstacle with digital images. With camera phones and the absolute massive amount of images we take, it is very easy for our photos to get lost in digital clutter if our files are not organized meticulously. Another risk to your digital images is accidentally deleting them. It is easy to do and you may not even realize it until weeks or months later. Digital images come with a lot of responsibility if you want to preserve them for a lifetime.
You have all kinds of great options

Ok, I know what you may be thinking. That sounds great but I still want to take home most of the images from the session! If you don’t like the idea of wall art, an album is a great way to print all the images from your session with most of the benefits of wall art. You can display a beautiful album on your coffee table and pass it on to your children when the time comes. They also make wonderful gifts for family members.
Enjoy the best of both worlds
Typically, I have found that most clients love to purchase a beautiful statement piece to hang on their wall with a collection of digital images. That’s why my collections include wall art and digital images, so my clients get to experience the best of both worlds! After your session, you will have an online ordering appointment where I help you decide what is best for your home and help you select your favorite images.
