Something I am often asked is why there is a need for a consultation before your portrait session. Life gets busy, and I can totally understand we may not always want to take that extra step. However the consultation is so important. Truly, I would rather take 30 minutes out of your photo session to make up for that extra time, if I really had to instead of skipping the consultation. So, what makes a consultation so important?
This is my chance to get to know how you dream of being photographed.
Of course, I could have everyone come to their session and photograph them all one way and get good images. But, would they be the images you wanted? While you may love my style of photography, you still have your own vision of how you would like to be photographed. Do you want indoor or outdoor? Do you want a glamorous photoshoot or some casual girl next door shots? Do you want bright and airy images or dark and dramatic? We discuss all of this in your consultation. So, why can’t you just tell me all of this the day before the photoshoot?
Well it’s very possible, if you have not looked through all of my work, you may not know everything I have to offer. I would be so sad if you came to your session, saw something you really wanted, but we couldn’t turn it into a reality because we didn’t have the clothes or right equipment set up.
I also put a lot of detail into my set and equipment behind the scenes. This can be time consuming. If I know what you want before your session, then I can have my lights and backdrops all set up and ready to go. I would hate to waste your time and photoshoot by setting up equipment instead of getting beautiful images of you.
It can really help with those extra nerves you may be having.
Let’s face it. We do not all really love being photographed. This can be a very stressful time and we can second guess ourselves at every turn. But, knowledge and pre-planning is powerful. You really have much less to worry about if we have already preplanned your make-up, wardrobe, and set details. One of the most common things that my clients stress over is wardrobe. We address all of that in your consultation. I will even do an extra mini-wardrobe consultation a week before your session over skype, if you wish, so we can go through your closet together. My job is to make sure that every detail of your photoshoot is how you want it. And, I can only do that if we take the time to make a plan.
We can set up a schedule that works for everyone
So often, especially in family sessions, mom gets ignored and the photoshoot gets rushed. While I absolutely love family session, I also have a special place in my heart for moms, being a mom myself. Mom, this is your time to get pampered and get beautiful shots of yourself that your husband and children will cherish for a lifetime. Moms are so magnificent and they deserve to be seen. So, in my consultations, we will often plan for mom to come early get completely pampered and start her personal photoshoot. Then, we can schedule for the dad and kids to arrive at the end of the session. Or, may you want to plan an awesome girl’s day out with your friends. These sessions can be so fun and can even be turned into a full spa and pamper day experience, but it takes some preplanning to work it into everyone’s schedule. That’s where the consultation comes in. However you dream of being photographed. It is my goal to capture that for you. With a little work and preplanning during the consultation, I am confident that we can create the photoshoot of your dreams and you will walk away with beautiful heirloom that take your breath away. Every time you see those images on your wall or look through your folio box, you will be reminded that you are truly beautiful.
